Gifted subs have become an increasingly popular way for viewers on Twitch to show their support and appreciation for their favorite streamers.

Whether it’s a one-time gift or a recurring subscription, gifted subs can provide benefits not only to the recipient but also to the gifter.

In this article, we’ll dive deep into the world of gifted subs on Twitch, exploring the many ways they work, their benefits, and how you can get the most out of gifting subs.

They can get quite expensive, so use our gifted subs calculator if you want to find out how much they might cost you.

Here’s how to gift a sub on Twitch:

Step 1

When you’re on a stream and watching, you’ll see just beside the Follow button, there will be the Subscribe button. If you’re already a subcriber to the channel, then this will display the message “Gift a Subscription”.

Step 2

Click the “Subscribe” button

Step 3

On the subscription options page, select the “Gift a Sub” option. This will open up the gifting options page.

Step 4

Choose the number of gifted subs you want to give. You can choose to gift one, two, or more subs. Each gifted sub will cost you the same amount as a regular subscription.

Step 5

Choose the recipient of the gifted sub. You can either choose a specific user, or you can let Twitch randomly select a user from the channel’s chat.

Step 6

You can add a personalized message to the gifted sub. This message will be sent to the recipient along with the subscription notification.

Step 7

Once you have chosen the number of gifted subs, the recipient, and personalized the gift, confirm the purchase by clicking on the “Gift” button.

The gifted subs will then be added to the recipient’s account, and they will receive a notification of the gift. It will also display a message in the chat to let everyone know that you’ve gifted a sub.

Note: Gifted subs are only valid for a month and do not renew automatically, so the recipient will need to renew their subscription manually if they want to continue accessing the benefits of the subscription.

Benefits of a gifted sub

Gifted subs can be beneficial to both the streamer and the person gifting the sub, as well as the person that receives it.

For the streamer, it obviously gives them positive feedback that you’re enjoying their content and willing to spend some money to support them beyond your own subscription. It will also help them in their Path to Partner objective if they’re pushing to become a Twitch partner.

They will also get the same amount of money from a gifted sub as they would from a regular sub.

It also gives you (the gifter) more status within the community, but don’t be surprised if after gifting some subs, you end up being bombarded with notifications and mentions from other people asking if they can have one too. (That’s one of the downsides).

It introduces others into the community and lets them access the perks that come with being a subscriber, whether that’s the emotes in the chat or even subscriber only areas on the streamers discord.

How to receive a gifted sub?

You don’t actually need to do anything in particular if you want to receive a gifted sub.

They are given out at random unless specified by the person who is gifting the sub.

Just spend time in a stream and become part of the community and you could be on the receiving end of a gifted sub. It’s as simple as that.

Then it just comes down to luck of the draw.

Sometimes you might receive subs for channels that you don’t follow.

If you don’t want this to happen then you need to go into your profile, then into the Security and Privacy tab and look for the following option that allows you to block receiving gifted subs from channels that you don’t follow.

Other than that, if you’re lucky enough to receive a gifted sub, it’s usually common courtesy to say thank you to the person who gifted it to you and you’re under no obligation to pay for continuing the sub in the future unless you fancied supporting the streamer that you’re watching.
